That is, provided they’re working fine. Somehow after some time, both of the mentioned freewares decided to stop working on my Windows 7.

These are the common error messages: Connectify service down, Virtual router could not be started, and Can not manage Virtual Router. The service is not running.

If you too couldn’t get Connectify or Virtual Router to work, try the following steps to share internet connection on Windows 7 via Wi-Fi without any software. We will be setting up an ad hoc network and bridging it with the internet connection source.

Set up an ad hoc connection:

Go to Network and Sharing Center

Select Set up a new connection or network

Select Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network

Enter a network name, select Open or WEP for security type (some devices couldn’t join WPA protected networks) and enter your desired security key.

Join the ad hoc network using the device you wanted to share your internet connection with

Bridging Internet Connection to Ad Hoc network

Back to Network and Sharing Center

Select Change adapter settings on the left

Right-click on the Wi-Fi adapter > Properties. On the Sharing tab, uncheck the two checkboxes

Right-click on Local Area Connection adapter (the source of internet connection) > Properties. On the Sharing tab, uncheck the two checkboxes

Now select both the Wi-Fi and LAN adapters (Ctrl + click on both the icons)

Once both of them are highlighted, right-click > Bridge connections

Any device that is connected to the ad hoc network should now be able to leech the internet connection off your Windows 7 PC. It works great on mine, tethering the 3G connection from my iPhone to my Windows 7 laptop, then sharing the connection via Wi-Fi with a Nokia E7.

Thanks to Dumbuser on superuser.com.

©2011 SheepTech

Share Internet Connection on Windows 7 Without Software

WeTransfer: Beautiful Way to Email Large Files

Web App

download

email

file hosting

file transfer

Internet

upload

How do you normally send large files over email? You have internet connection basically wherever you go, and it makes total sense to share it with your other WiFi enabled devices, or even to your Facebook addict friends.

Sharing your internet connection via WiFi on Windows 7 is much easier than you probably think. No need of going through the control panel, setting up new connection etc. All you have to do is install this little application—Connectify.

After installing Connectify, you can make your Windows 7 laptop into a WiFi hotspot by entering a few parameters:

Name your WiFi hotspot

Select password

Select which internet connection you would like to share

Select Hotspot mode

The next thing you have to do is to hit the big “Start Hotspot” button and you are good to go!

Stop Connectify from launching on every Windows logon

By default, Connectify will launch itself everytime you start your PC. To disable this:

Go to
Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools
and select System Configuration

Click on the Startup tab

Uncheck Connectify

Alternatively:

Go to
Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools
and select Task Scheduler

Select Connectify

On the right sidebar, under Selected Item, click on Disable.

©2011 SheepTech

Windows 7: Share Internet Connection via WiFi

Find The Fastest DNS Server & Change Easily

Software

DNS

DNS server

Internet

nameserver

If you’ve been using the internet for a while, you should have come across names like OpenDNS and Google Public DNS. All these free DNS server provider claims to speed up your internet experience and improve security—so which to choose?

Rarst suggested two tools to test which DNS server has the best performance for you, namely namebench and DNS Benchmark. I prefer the latter for its simplicity, but the former has a more detailed test report if that’s what you prefer.

In my case, DNS Benchmark decides that Google Public DNS is the fastest.

After determining which DNS server performs the best for you, you can change to that DNS server via the TCP/IP settings, which is relatively easy. However, if you prefer something even easier and simpler, have a look at DNS Changer.

It’s a simple app which already have some of the major DNS IP addresses preset in it, namely Google, OpenDNS, and FoolDNS. If your preferred DNS server’s IP is not listed, you can enter it manually and save it.

With it, changing your DNS server is as easy as choosing you preferred DNS server from the list and click “Apply Changes“. You can also revert to your ISP’s DNS easily by selecting “Automatic“.

©2011 SheepTech

Find The Fastest DNS Server & Change Easily

How to Unlock Huawei USB Modem For Free

Gadget

Tips & Tutorial

3G

Broadband

Huawei

Internet

Maxis

modem

unlock

Wireless Broadband

It’s not difficult to look for unlocking service for Huawei USB 3G modem online. Why didn’t my download speed get anywhere near there?

Answer
Most ISPs quote download speed in kilobit(kb) or megabit(Mb). In contrast, download speed displayed in internet browsers or P2P programs are displayed in kilobyte(kB).

1 byte = 8 bits

Therefore, if you are subscribing to a 1Mbps (1000 Kbps) package from your local ISP, your download speed would be at 122.07 kB/s. If you’re unsure, you can use an online converter to determine your real download speed.

Now stop swearing or cursing your ISP whenever you see only 120kB/s download speed when you are subscribing to a 1Mbps package. You are indeed getting what you are subscribing for.

©2011 SheepTech

Why is my download speed way lower than what I’m subscribing?

How To Block Websites Without Software

Tips & Tutorial

Windows

block website

Internet

Windows XP

Your kids are spending way too much time on a certain website and you are not happy with it? Discover adult websites in the History after your kids used your computer?

If your kids still won’t listen even after all the nagging, you might want to just block the websites you don’t want them to visit. In just 3 simple steps, without any software downloading, you can block as many websites as you want easily.

Step 1
Click Start > Run. Type
notepad C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts
in the “Open:” field and click OK.

Step 2
A notepad will pop up. Find the line where it says “
127.0.0.1 localhost
”

Step 3
Immediately under the “
127.0.0.1 localhost
“, enter the website you want to block by using the format “127.0.0.1 webaddress.com”. For example, you want to block Google and Yahoo from being accessed:

You can block as many websites as you want, just make sure you only enter one URL per line. To remove the blocked websites, just simply remove the line and you are done.

Demo

Click on the icon for a full screen view.

©2011 SheepTech

How To Block Websites Without Software
