CommentLuv LogoAs you probably have already know, SheepTech is now CommentLuv enabled. While it is clearly helpful in increasing the number of comments, it’s also adding clutter that I deem unnecessary, the info panel. It appears whenever you hover your cursor on the little heart next to each CommentLuv link, providing little to no value, in my opinion.

CommentLuv Info Panel

If you are thinking the same, here’s how to disable it. I’m unsure if it’s the best way to do it, but it works at least.

How to disable Info Panel from CommentLuv

1. Go to your “Edit Plugins” page (http://yourdomain.com/wp-admin/plugin-editor.php)

2. Select “CommentLuv” from the dropdown menu. You should be on the “Editing commentluv/commentluv.php (active)” page now.

3. Search for <span class=”heart_tip_box”>. There are two instance this code will appear in the php file. Do the same for both of them. It looks like this:

$commentcontent .= '<span class="heart_tip_box"><img src="' . $this-&gt;plugin_url . 'images/littleheart.gif" border="0" alt="My ComLuv Profile" width="16" height="14" /></span>';

4. Remove the code in red from it. It should look like this now:

$commentcontent .= '<img src="' . $this-&gt;plugin_url . 'images/littleheart.gif" border="0" alt="My ComLuv Profile" width="16" height="14" />';

5. Click on the “Update File” button. Now search for <span class=”heart_tip_box”> again. If it’s gone, the lovely heart icon will now probably not prompt the info panel when you hover on it.

Let me know if it works on your blog too.

    They should really make this an option in the admin panel. I believe there are more like me, who likes the little heart but dislike the info panel.

    I agree, they makers of CommentLuv should add an option to disable this feature.

    Btw, well written tutorial. I’m sure many CommentLuv users will find this useful. :)

  9. Nice post. I’m really reading up on apps because I think its the wave of the future. The internet is dying imho. I found a software which lets you create apps pretty easily, its called Droid Generator. I made my first app this weekend and it already brought 400+ people to my blog. Funny because it took my only 5 minutes to make the app, and the payoff is just dumbfounding.

  11. Hi,

    Thanks for the hack as it is definitely useful for anyone who’d like to be rid of the info box.

    You won’t mind my dissenting opinion . . . I have to disagree that the CommentLuv info panel doesn’t provide any value. Once a user becomes a member, the rewards are apparent.

    Indeed, I’ve heard bloggers say they check that little heart to see what else a commenter has going on. The benefits aren’t always easily apparent, so I wrote an article on the benefits that will shed a little more light. (Article in CommentLuv sig below.)

  13. I like the little heart and the added info on hover. But it would be good to make it optional. The heart is optional now.
