Gmail Notifier - Failed to log inMy Gmail Notifier Firefox add-on had stop working for several months already, and apparently the Offline Gmail feature from Gmail Labs is the culprit.

Updating to the latest version of Gmail Notifier (0.6.3.11 at the time of writing) didn’t help at all, but fortunately this can be fixed by simply installing this: hosted2.xpi

It works for me, as you can see:

How well does it work at your side?

P/s: Aw, long time since I hear the “You’ve got mail” sound.

I have been a Nokia N82 user for the pass 9 months, and there is this thing that annoys the hell out of me. The S60 3rd Music Player could not differentiate ringtones and sms tones from full songs, thus indexing every single audio files and mixing them all together.

What does that means? Random ringtones will be played from time to time while you’re listening to your mp3s on the Music Player. The playlist can go like this:

1. P-p-p-poker face, p-p-poker face~ (full song)
2. Message.. message!.. message!!!, MESSAGE!, MESSAGE!!!!! (message tone)
3. I believe I can fly~ (full song)

If that is not annoying enough, try selecting a ringtone or sms tone. Again, all the audio files will be listed, and you have to browse (listen, no searching or filtering while selecting ringtones!) and look for the ringtone or sms tone you want manually, among the entire playlist plus all your other audio files.

This might not be a problem if you do not store songs in your phone, but to those who own a 16GB microSD and have half the card storage occupied by songs, you will know how painful it is, scrolling the monster list, just to look for a freaking 30-seconds sound clip.

Google Japan PageRank DropThe PageRank of Google Japan has dropped from 9/10 to 5/10, serving as a penalty for Google Japan’s involvement in purchasing paid links. In another words, Google is slapping itself for breaking a rule it sets itself. Irony.

Several days back, TechCrunch reported that Google Japan hired a local marketing firm to promote its newly launched “Hot Keywords widget” (to display the top 5 search terms on Google Japan), via a pay-per-post campaign. However, unlike what’s suggested by Google itself on paid links, the links in the sponsored posts bought are not nofollow links.

Forvo logoWith the wide range of information on the internet, it is no surprise to discover new words or terms every now and then, in your own language or otherwise. However, some words are not meant to be pronounced as it looks like, particularly brand names, and no one will like the embarrassing moment when you pronounce a word wrong in public (unless you don’t realize).

Forvo is a brilliant website intending to bring people from all over the world to pronounce as many words as they can, in any language. This way, you can learn how people from the rest of the world pronounce a word with different accent.

VideoSurf timeline(Firefox Add-on): Just like torrent files, YouTube videos can get pretty nasty too. Judging from the quality of comments left by the YouTube community, you shouldn’t be surprised to spot some nothing-better-to-do YouTubers uploading fake videos with misleading titles (say, a video full of emoticons titled Pink Panther 2 Trailer: watch).

EarphoneAfter getting rid of 2 big bags worth of old unwanted items from my drawers and shelf (some items date back to 8 years), I sit back and see what else I could do to unclutter my workstation. Two tangled earphones on my desk came to my attention, and naturally I Google for a way to handle them.

I was pointed to a tutorial on lifehacker, which was a very practical way to keep earphones, and more importantly making sure they will not be tangled when I wanted to use them later.

Since lifehacker is just providing the tutorial in words, I filmed a video tutorial to better demonstrate the steps, and to proof that the cables will really not be tangled when you unwrap them later.
