While everyone else gets hippie on the release of iOS 4.2, owners of iPhone 3G and 3GS might get somewhat disappointed. Aside from the long list of new features for the iPad, iOS 4.2 also promises a goodie or two for the iPhone—one of them being Find My iPhone” going free.

iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 4

It makes perfect sense as it’s not viable to subscribe to MobileMe ($99 per year) if Find My iPhone is all you need. But apparently Apple is only offering this feature for free if you own any of their latest iDevice, namely the iPhone 4, iPad and 4th generation iPod Touch.

Microsoft bundled the all new Windows Live Essentials 2011 pack in a recent Windows update, which includes Windows Live Messenger 2011 (15.4.3502.0922).

WLM 2011 sports a Windows 7-ish user interface, tabbed chat window, Bing integration, Facebook integration, and has an overall cleaner look comparing to the earlier version.

But if you have previously removed the advertisements in the earlier WLM version, the ads will now be back to haunt you. It takes up considerable amount of screen real estate, and most annoyingly, it expands when you roll over the ad.

The good news is, the developer behind A-Patch, who is responsible for removing ads from all previous versions of Windows Live Messenger, is as active as ever.

At the time of writing, A-Patch was last updated on 16th November 2010 and has the following customization ability over Windows Live Messenger 2011:

Windows Live Messenger 2011

  • Remove banner ad from contact list
  • Remove text ad from chat window
  • Remove nudge delay
  • Disable nudge shake
  • Remove search bar
  • Accept more than 3 files transfer at a time
  • Remove the top of contact list
  • Remove the “Connected to…” bar
  • Remove the “See More Offerings” items in the file menus
  • Remove “Featured” section from the Emoticons “more” dialog box.
  • Polygamy: open more than one messenger simultaneously

My display picture says it all :)

Alertful mascotWhy is there a need for email reminders when there are so many other to do application, be it web based, mobile app or desktop software? Because you can never go wrong with reminder redundancy to ensure you don’t miss any task with costly consequence.

I’ve personally subscribed to MobileMe’s 2 month free trial, and if I don’t cancel the subscription before the expiry date, Apple will automatically renew my subscription and charge my card accordingly. To depend on just a to do list or my phone’s calender app might be too risky.

At Alertful, you can schedule free email reminders with minimal effort. No account registration, no signing in, just schedule and forget. At the Get Started page, you can select the nature of your reminder, which will determine the email template and mascot used in your email reminder (okay, the mascot is the same, only his action and bubble text is different).

The new Facebook messaging is attempting to change this all.

One social inbox, where you will only receive messages from real humans. One Other Messaging inbox, for messages from Events and Facebook Pages. You can blacklist any of your Facebook friends from your social inbox, as well as promote any senders from the Other Messaging inbox to your social inbox.

To describe Workflowy, it’s a list making web app that can create a list in a list in a list in a list, all without complicating anything. How?
